Abstract This paper presents the possibility of counteracting a perceived general weakening of the listening sense, by applying 'psychotropic' sound design principles to composition. These principles draw on observations from the music therapy domain to enhance and promote the perception of natural acoustic ecologies as a contemplative 'deep listening' experience.
